Chance (noun; English) — the way things happen without design; who crosses your path and when.
Most of the people I photograph are people I know, or came to know, some are strangers in passing.
I see the light catch someone a certain way, or notice them in the middle of something — a friend on a bench disappearing into a cloud of vapour, someone tuning a guitar, the candy man pulling cotton candy at a fair.
If a situation catches my attention and my camera's with me, I'll take the image.
